Tui Na massage: What it is and how it helps with pain relief
Tui Na is a traditional Chinese therapeutic massage that uses techniques such as kneading, pressing, rolling, and stretching to stimulate acupuncture points and manipulate muscles and soft tissues.
Cicely has completed over six months of professional training in Tui Na, gaining expert skills to apply this therapy effectively. She combines Tui Na with acupuncture to elevate healing by addressing both internal energy flow and external muscle tension.
This powerful combination improves circulation, reduces pain, accelerates recovery from injuries, relieves stress, and promotes overall wellbeing. If you’re looking for a holistic approach to pain relief and health, Tui Na alongside acupuncture offers comprehensive care tailored to your needs.
Each movement is intentional and targeted, aiming to:
Release tension in muscles and joints.
Improve circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Address internal imbalances that might be causing pain or illness.
In short, it’s not just a feel-good treatment — it’s therapeutic and often used to treat specific health issues, especially pain.
What Can Tui Na Help With?
Back pain and stiffness.
Neck and shoulder tension
Sciatica.
Arthritis.
Joint pain and restricted movement.
Headaches and migraines.
Stress and fatigue.
What Happens in a Tui Na Session?
A typical session is done fully clothed (no oils are used), and you’ll either lie on a treatment couch or sit upright, depending on the focus area. Cicely uses a variety of techniques depending on your symptoms, from gentle pressure to deeper, more invigorating movements. Many of my clients describe it as a mix between physiotherapy, sports massage and acupressure — deeply therapeutic, yet relaxing.
Is Tui Na Right for You?
If you're suffering from chronic pain, muscle stiffness, or simply feel stuck in your body, Tui Na could be the gentle nudge your system needs to move back into balance. It’s also a great option if you’re needle-shy but still want to benefit from traditional Chinese medicine.
